PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – In response to Hurricane Helene, Mercy Chefs is serving thousands of hot, chef-prepared meals daily throughout western North Carolina.

The Virginia-based disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization is stationed at Mission Hospital in Asheville, where hospital personnel and families of patients at the site are being catered.

The nonprofit is serving the public at multiple locations:

  • ArtSpace Charter School, 2030 US 70, Swannanoa, NC 28778
    • Meal times: lunch 12 p.m., dinner 5 p.m.
  • Redeemer Church Asheville, 531 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC, 28806
    • Meal times: lunch 12 p.m., dinner 5 p.m.
  • The Bridge Church Hendersonville, 580 Upward Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731
    • Meal times: lunch 12:30 p.m., dinner 5:30 p.m.
  • Marshall Community Housing Coalition, 798 Walnut Creek Rd, Marshall, NC 28753
    • Meal times: lunch 12:30 p.m., dinner 5:30 p.m.

More distribution sites are expected to be added in the coming days.

“The destruction we’ve seen here rivals some of the hardest-hit areas we’ve deployed to in our nearly 20-year history,” said Gary LeBlanc, founder and CEO of Mercy Chefs. “The damage is unimaginable and widespread, and the community need is enormous. We expect to be here for the long haul, and we are actively looking for sites where we could set up a Beacon of Hope kitchen for long-term relief for the Western North Carolina community.”
