CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — It was a violent night in Chesapeake after two shootings occurred around 10 minutes of each other on Friday night, one of which was fatal.

The Chesapeake Police Department is currently investigating a homicide that occurred in the 700 block of Sea Palling Lane on Friday night, police said. Officers were dispatched to the scene just before 8 p.m., following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a man, later identified as 46-year-old Christopher Heck, who had been shot. Heck was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police told 10 On Your Side this was a domestic incident.

Another shooting occurred around 10 minutes earlier. Police responded to the 900 block of Great Bridge Boulevard around 7:50 p.m. They found a man with a gunshot wound in the dairy section of a grocery store after having fled his residence to escape the shooter.

The victim reported that he had been shot at his residence in the 700 block of Seapines Run and fled to the grocery store to escape. Police returned to the residence and found a crime scene. Witnesses reported that the shooter left the area in a vehicle following the incident. The victim’s wounds are non life-threatening.
