NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Someone stole an elderly Norfolk man’s only mode of transportation, and he’s trying to get it back.
The specialized adult tricycle 84-year-old Jim Bennett uses helps him with his mobility and to take care of his daily needs. He has taken to social media to help get it back.
“I was just in dismay, I couldn’t hardly believe it,” Bennett said.
The theft happened Thursday night, and wasn’t just any ordinary three-wheeler.
“I needed it for therapy and for exercise,” Bennett said. “I can’t walk more than 20 or 30 feet without stopping, so it was my means to try to rebuild myself physically and stay active.”
Bennett said the bike was a one of a kind, worth more than $3,000. He said since first reporting the theft, he hasn’t heard much from police.
Bennett believes this was a targeted attack.
“I think that these two deliveries are worth investigating because who else would know that bike was there and to know what to bring back to take it,” Bennett said.
Norfolk Police Department continue to investigate this theft. Anyone who knows anything is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or use the P3Tips app.
