Today was the first day back to school for a few school districts. The rest of the kids have been back for a little while. They all had great weather this morning. We had lots of sunshine with temps mainly in the 60s.

Tower Cam This Morning

High pressure is building into the area as a cold front stalls out to our south.

Regional Weather Map

We are going to have a lot of sunshine today. It will also be nice and dry. Dew points are in the 50s. However, there will be a fairly strong breeze out of the northeast. Some of the gusts this morning were around 30mph over Virginia Beach. This was the exception though. Most of the gusts today will be around 25mph. Especially near the shore.

Wind Gusts Forecast

One issue that this is causing is some rough surf and high waves. Therefore, there is a high threat for rip currents at all of the local beaches.

Rip Current Risk

There may be some nuisance tidal flooding between today and tomorrow, but it should be minimal.

High temps today will be in the mid-upper 70s.

Temperature Forecast

Tomorrow the weather will be decent, but there will be more clouds. High temps will be in the 70s, again and the humidity shouldn’t be too bad.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

I’m not expecting rain tomorrow, but the moisture will increase some more by Thursday. We’ll be mostly cloudy with some isolated showers in the area. High temps will be in the upper 70s to near 80. I think it will still be a decent day overall.

The humidity will go up quite a bit more by Friday and Saturday. It will be muggy again by Saturday.

Muggy Meter

The temps will also warm up to the low 80s. We’ll have some scattered rain showers by Friday afternoon. Then we’ll have an even higher chance of rain on Saturday. This will be as a stationary front sits nearby with a cold front approaching form the northwest. We should cool down and dry out again by Sunday.

The rainfall for the year has been interesting so far. When I say that it’s always “feast or famine” around here. I mean it. Take a look at the rainfall foe the year so far.

Rainfall Climate

We just finished way up for the month of July, but then August was over 2 inches in the hole. We did just have some rain this last Sunday into Monday morning. We picked up about 0.8 inches in Norfolk. However, we need the rain to keep coming. We are going into the Fall planting season soon.

In the tropics there are 3 tropical disturbances in the Atlantic Basin.

Tropical Outlook

None of these features are likely to form in the short term, but a couple of them have a medium chance formation over the next few days.
