VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A 23-year-old was arrested after police say he robbed the Truist bank in the Town Center area on Wednesday.

Officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard just before 9:50 a.m. for reports of a robbery in progress. The suspect though fled before they arrived.

The suspect, Jakim Girard, implied he was armed and obtained an undisclosed amount of money from the bank before fleeing the scene, police say.

He was arrested later in the day without incident after “an extensive investigation by the VBPD Violent Crimes Unit.”

He’s been charged with two counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
