(WAVY) — Stephen Nedoroscik has become an American darling after helping secure two bronze medals for the USA men’s gymnastics team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Stephen is a pommel horse specialist who helped propel the gymnastics team to the podium for the first time since 2008. He helped Team USA win the bronze medal and was the only member on the team to qualify for an individual event — where he once again earned a bronze.

Stephen made more than just America proud with his performance. His family and long-time girlfriend were also there to cheer him on.

“Is that not the most amazing thing?” Stephen’s mom said. “We are just so proud of him and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I’ll tell you that.”

His girlfriend said that Stephen was confident in his pursuit to the Olympics.

“We’ve been together for eight years now and the entire time he has never been anything but certain that he was going to make the Olympics and he was going to be an Olympian,” his girlfriend said. “And so, to see that dream come to fruition and we’re here in Paris — it still doesn’t feel real.”

Stephen has become popular on social media platforms like TikTok, sometimes being referred to as “the specialist” or featured in gymnastic compilations. His sisters have been enjoying his new internet fame.

“The meme-ification of him now is so good,” one sister said. “Every single day I wake up to a new one and they make me giggle.”

He has two eye conditions and his sisters said they are proud that he’s raising awareness about them.

“He has worked so unbelievably hard through, you know, his condition, through his training, every struggle,” the same sister said.

“We held the score cards for all of his meets at like his home gym,” His second sister said. “So like, to go from doing that to literally being at the Olympics and seeing him win not only the Team USA bronze medal, but also the individual bronze medal was absolutely surreal.”
