MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A man in Mathews County was found guilty and sentenced to serve two years in prison on gun charges on Tuesday.

27-year-old Daniel Miller pleaded guilty to reckless handling of a firearm, two counts of brandishing a firearm and maliciously shooting or throwing a missile at a vehicle.

Miller was sentenced to 13 years with 11 years suspended.

On Nov. 10, 2023, Miller was seen shooting a rifle in the middle of Cricket Hill Road. Reports from witnesses said they saw the male subject standing in the road on that same night with his rifle pointed at their windshield. One driver saw a muzzle blast come from the barrel of the rifle and had to take cover and drive on the shoulder to get around the shooter. Deputies and investigators responded to the scene and Miller was taken into custody without incident.
