FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said they arrested a man who is accused of carjacking a driver and trying to carjack others in the span of 90 minutes.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said the person facing charges is Ranzo Johnson, 38, of Annandale.

FCPD said officers were in the 8600 block of Woodlawn Ct. in Woodlawn around 5:50 p.m. on July 6 after they received word of an assault there. When police arrived, witnesses told them that a man attacked a person and tried to steal the person’s car. Several people intervened and kept the man, Johnson, there.

Detectives said their investigation found that around 4:35 p.m. Johnson successfully carjacked someone in the 7600 block of Allman Dr. in Annandale. FCPD said the driver was in her SUV when Johnson pulled her out of it and drove off in the SUV. The driver was hurt, but her injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Investigators said Johnson drove to the 8600 block of Richmond Hwy. in Mount Vernon where the SUV stopped running. That’s where he’s accused of trying to carjack a second vehicle that had two people inside it. Several Good Samaritans prevented the theft, and the people inside the vehicle weren’t hurt.

FCPD said Johnson tried to get away and carjack the person on Woodlawn Court where they took him into custody. That driver had injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

Johnson was hurt prior to police getting to Woodlawn Court. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. The warrants which detectives secured against Johnson were for Carjacking, three counts of Attempted Carjacking, and two Assault charges.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the incidents or any others to contact the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau at (703) 246-7800 and choose Option 5.
