NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A person was taken to the hospital after a house caught fire Thursday morning in Norfolk.

It broke out around 10:43 a.m. in the 1600 blk of Modoc Avenue in the Ocean View area, with smoke and flames coming from the second-floor bedroom window and roof.

Crews entered the home with hoses and were able to get the fire under control at 11:16 a.m.

Battalion Chief Glen Williams with Norfolk Fire-Rescue says one resident was treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and four adults and their dog are being helped by the Red Cross.
