We are going to have some pretty good weather this weekend for Harborfest and any other local events. However, the dryness and coolness in the forecast aren’t looking as refreshing as a couple of days ago. Let’s talk about it.

Last night there was a line of showers and storms moving towards the region. A lot of these turned into some light rain showers.

Rain Last Night

There were some isolated thunderstorms with brief heavy rain, but most of the region barely got a tenth of an inch of rainfall. This was ahead of a cool front that is now moving slowly to our south.

Regional Weather Map

The front will slowly sink to our south today. We’ll have a breeze pick up out of the northwest. It will run at 5-15mph. This will be able to pull down some drier air into the region.

Muggy Meter

We’ll be partly cloudy today with some isolated showers still possible over the Outer Banks. Another effect of the slowness of the front is that it won’t be that much cooler today. High temps will still be able to reach the mid-upper 80s this afternoon.

Forecast Temps Today

However, it should feel better this afternoon with the drier air.

Tomorrow we’ll have dry weather through and through. We’ll start off in the low-mid 60s in the morning with a few upper 50s inland. We’ll have mostly sunny skies with a little more clouds late in the day. High temps will be in the mid 80s.

By Sunday the light breeze will start to turn out of the south. This will push our high temperatures up to the upper 80s.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

Dew points will rise again as well. We’ll be partly cloudy. We may have some isolated showers by Sunday evening, but I’m keeping them out of the daytime forecast for now.

A cold front will move through the region Sunday night into Monday morning. This will cause a cluster of showers and possibly a few storms through that time.

GFS Model Sunday Night

The GFS Model is now showing a large plume of moisture riding up the east coast next Tuesday through Thursday. This may create a lot of rain for our area. This could be a good thing for Florida which has been ironically very dry lately.

U.S. Drought Monitor

Hopefully, they don’t get too much rain too soon. Hopefully, we don’t either. Stay tuned for updates.
