Today’s the day! We’ve been talking about it for weeks and months, but it’s here. The eclipse! We are not in the path of totality, but we have a couple of employees that are traveling to that zone.

Path Of Totality

While we are not in that path here, I think we’ll have some decent viewing. The last eclipse in 2017 was about 86% of the sun blocked. This time it will be closer to 80%. Here was a picture that I took of the projection of the eclipse on the ground using a telescope.

2017 Eclipse Light Through Bushes

There was a slight dimming of the sky, and I have to admit… The mosquitoes came out in full force. I think they thought it was twilight already. So keep that in mind this year. Luckily, the mosquitoes aren’t too bad yet. Overall, the weather should be good for the event here. We’ll be partly cloudy with temps warming to near 70 degrees.

Eclipse Forecast

It starts around 2 p.m., peaks around 3:20 p.m., and ends around 4:30 p.m.

Solar Eclipse Info

Some reminders:

  1. Use special (approved) glasses only to look directly at the eclipse. You can also use welding masks.
  2. Be sure to tell kids not to look at the eclipse without glasses
  3. You can use a telescope or binoculars to project an image onto the ground. If you do that don’t look at the sun to line up the light. Use the shadow. Also don’t project it onto paper.

Good luck with your viewing!

We have high pressure in the region, and it is slowly sliding offshore. This is going to allow for the wind to turn out of the south/southwest today. It will only be about 5-10mph. So our high temps will warm to near 70 degrees today. Nice!

Forecast Temps Today

That’s a big jump from this morning’s low temperatures of 30s and 40s. So dress in layers. We’ll stay dry today, but a stray shower may fall in the evening after 6pm. Keep in mind that pollen levels have increased.

Pollen Forecast

Tomorrow we’ll have a bit more clouds, but the wind will be a little stronger out of the southwest. It will run at 10-15mph with possibly a few higher gusts. There may also be some isolated showers in the afternoon, but it’s a pretty low chance. Temps will be milder in the morning and warmer in the afternoon. We’ll start off in the upper 40s to low 50s, but we’ll warm to the mid-upper 70s.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

Overall, it will be a pretty good day.

We’ll have even more clouds and some scattered showers on Wednesday. It won’t be a washout. There won’t be any big front moving through, but I think the wind direction will change. So high temps will dip to the low 70s. On Thursday we’ll have more moisture and clouds in the area. High temps will push up to the upper 70s despite these features.

Temperature Trend

We’ll have scattered showers in the afternoon. However, we may have even more rain with some thunderstorms during the evening.

GFS Model Late Thursday

This will be ahead of a cool front that will slide through early Friday morning. However, we won’t cool down too much behind the front (thankfully). Highs will still be around 70. I’ll talk about next weekend’s weather in tomorrow’s weather blog.
