CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — An early morning house fire in Chesapeake sent one person to the hospital for evaluation.
Around 5 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Chestnut Avenue after neighbors saw a fire and called 911.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found fire coming from the front of a single-story home. Crews attacked the fire with multiple hoselines until it was extinguished.
Officials said everyone was able to get out of the home before fire crews arrived. However, one person was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a non life-threatening injury.
During the fire, crews rescued multiple animals from the residence. Pet oxygen masks were used to help save some of the animals suffering from smoke inhalation.
According to officials, the house sustained significant damage and is not habitable. At this time, Red Cross assistance has not been requested.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
