NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Portsmouth man on Campostella Road early Wednesday morning, Norfolk Police said.

Kevin E. Hayes, 32, of Chesapeake, has been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the shooting death of Nikemeon Brewer, 25, of Portsmouth, police said.

Police got a call around 1 a.m. for a man, later identified as Brewer, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound in the 1700 block of Campostella Road in the Diggs Town Housing community. Brewer was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

Hayes is currently being held without bond. Detectives have not released any further details in connection to the shooting.
