NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Two men, including a former Virginia Beach cafeteria assistant, have been sentenced for their role in a child sexual assault case.

According to officials, 31-year-old James Clayton Wentworth and 46-year-old Franklin James Basham were arrested after an extensive investigation from the Portsmouth Police Special Victims Unit in April of 2023.

Wentworth, who pled guilty to coercion and enticement of a minor on Aug. 29, was sentenced on Jan. 9 to 252 months through the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and an additional seven years of supervised release with conditions.

Basham, who previously worked at Independence Middle School as a cafeteria assistant, was sentenced on Feb. 21 to 180 months in prison and an additional 20 years of supervised release.

Basham was charged with coercion and enticement of a minor.
