NORFOLK, Va. (Courtesy of NSU Athletics) – The Norfolk State women’s basketball team has won four consecutive games after defeating Delaware State 79-52 at home Saturday afternoon on National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

The Spartans (16-5, 5-1 MEAC) stay undefeated at home with the win over the Hornets (6-13, 2-4 MEAC) in a dominant performance by junior forward Kierra Wheeler. The Spartans are now 6-0 at home this season.

Wheeler finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Diamond Johnson had 14 points while Paris Mullins finished with a career high 12 points. Mullins was perfect from the floor in a career performance from here that saw her also collect a career high five rebounds.

NIya Fields secured five steals to go along with nine points and five assists for her fourth consecutive game with multiple steals. Fields has had a steal in every game this year (21).

The Spartans led the entire game against the Hornets, never surrendering the lead. During this win streak the Spartans are averaging 75 points per game and are winning by an average 27 points.

By out rebounding the Hornets by 10 the Spartans were able to garner 22 more shots. This is also the second straight game that the Spartans have caused 20 or more turnovers, after causing 21 in this game.

This win marks the seventh straight win for the Spartans over the Hornets.
