NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk man is behind bars, charged with the murder of his own brother.
The victim’s death was initially undetermined, but a medical examiner ruled it a homicide.
People 10 On Your Side spoke to said the brothers are twins and had a lot of love for each other.
Police have not released a possible motive.
Neighbors who knew 47-year old Larry Matruski and his twin brother Sean Matruski are in disbelief.
“He’s going to be truly missed because he was a great guy and I hate that this happened,” said neighbor Carol English.
Neighbors told 10 On Your Side the brothers lived together at Elite Apartments off North Military Highway.
First responders went out there Wednesday morning for a cardiac arrest call and found Larry unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
However, police said a medical examiner determined Larry died from blunt force trauma.
Police eventually arrested Sean and charged him with second-degree murder.
“Larry was such a good guy,” English said. “He would come and ask people if he could help you do anything, and he was glad to do it.”
Another neighbor we spoke to didn’t want to go on camera, but he said he heard some commotion overnight, however he said it wasn’t anything unusual.
People we talked to described Larry as a friendly guy who battled some health issues.
10 On Your Side also spoke to friends of Sean Matruski.
“It’s beyond shocking. It’s upsetting,” said a woman who only wanted to be identified as Michelle.
She said Sean is one of her husband’s good friends.
“We’re really upset over this because it’s just not Sean. He’s a very kind, helpful, a great guy,” Michelle said.
The details surrounding the homicide haven’t been released, but everyone who spoke to 10 On Your Side said they have a hard time believing this was intentional.
“I don’t think he would’ve done something like that to his brother because he loved his brother. He looked after Larry. I don’t know what went wrong or what happened,” English said.
Sean Matruski is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
