NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man wanted on multiple charges in connection with a double shooting in Newport News that left one person dead is now in custody.
Newport News police said the shooting happened inside a home in the 600 block of Dresden Drive, off Jefferson Avenue, shortly before 9:15 p.m. A woman, 24-year-old Kayleigh Christian Ellifritz, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man who was also shot was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His injury was not life-threatening, police said.
Police said 23-year-old Jonah Dwight Sims turned himself in Tuesday evening after coordinating with the NNPD Fugitive Apprehension Unit.
Sims is charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, assault, malicious wounding, two counts of burglary with intent to commit a felony and discharging a firearm within a residence.
The double shooting on Dresden came hours after fatal shootings in Newport News and Hampton were reported less than an hour apart late Monday morning.
A suspect, 21-year-old Elijah Dayron Armstrong, was later charged with first-degree murder in connection with both shootings.
