PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — After decades in Hampton Roads, dry cleaning service Zoots is seemingly no more.
Last week, emails went out to customers saying:
“To our loyal Zoots customers,
It is with heavy hearts and deep regrets to inform you that we are closing Zoots as of February 21, 2019.
We have enjoyed servicing all of your dry cleaning needs through the years. We have come to think of each of you as friends during this time.
If you have garments with us they can be picked up as soon as possible at 886 S. Military Hwy. Va. Beach, Va. 23464″
The company’s website has a similar message on the homepage.
“I am shocked. I mean, it’s been here for the last few years and like I say, it’s been my go-to close to home place to get my clothes cleaned. They’ve always done a great job, too,” said Kaye McDonald.
10 On Your Side spoke with other customers who were notified by phone and some who did not know about the closure until they went to drop off or pick up clothes.
“No notification. I did not get a letter, a phone call, no type of communication. This is very inconvienent,” said Dee Johnson. “Nobody called us to say that the location had been changed.”
Signs posted on Zoots’ doors tell customers to go to One Price Cleaning at 886 S. Military Highway, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 to pick up their clothes. They have until March 31.
“No real explanation why it was closed, and that if they had clothes to be picked up, you can go to the address on the door,” McDonald said.
WAVY reporter Marielena Balouris has reached out to the store managers and corporate offices, but they have not responded with an explanation.
