VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a woman was shot during a robbery on Jeanne Street in Virginia Beach early Monday morning.

Virginia Beach police said two males approached the woman in a parking lot in the 4700 block of Jeanne Street, off Kellam Road, around 1:35 a.m.

Neighbors living nearby heard the shots.

“I actually heard a big bang and thought it was a firework, and my friend was in her next room beside my room and I messaged her and said, ‘did you hear that?’ and she was like, ‘yea, I think it was just like a firework’ and then we let it go,” said neighbor Deserae Ramey.

“My husband and I both heard something and we didn’t know if it was a gunshot or a fire work and we automatically assumed fire work.” said Mykah Mulcahy.

The two men pulled out guns and robbed her. During the robbery the woman was shot by one of the suspects, police said.

Both suspects fled the area on foot in an unknown direction.

Medics took the woman to a local hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Neighbors say after this crime, they may be changing up their nightly routine.

“I don’t think I’ll be walking late at night with my dog anymore,” Mulcahy said.
