NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A second man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of another man in Newport News on July 5.

Detectives took 32-year-old Robert Freeman into custody the evening of July 11. He’s been charged with first degree murder, robbery, assault, shoot/stab in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felony and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Adrian Demetrice Williams on Friday, July 8 without incident. He is facing multiple charges including first degree murder, robbery, possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon, failure to appear on a misdemeanor offense, contempt of court, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The shooting occurred in the 600 block of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, near the intersection of Forrest Drive.

The victim, later identified as 34-year-old Dominic Thompson, was transported to the hospital where he died.

“I am appreciative so many people stepped up to make this quick arrest possible,” said Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew. “Citizens and businesses are doing their part by providing critical information necessary to solve crimes and we thank them for their willingness to be part of the solution.

Police say the homicide is under active investigation, but they are not looking for additional suspects.
