PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Stop the Violence 757 spent the weekend hosting a series of events to bring awareness to gun violence across the community and country.
On Saturday, the group kicked off gun violence awareness events with the Go Orange Bike Ride. Donated bikes from the community are available for free for kids.
Freddie Taylor Sr., the Stop the Violence 757 President, says now more than ever the community must come together.
“It’s disheartening and it’s downright depressing that these kids are being maimed, wounded and killed. They have no regard for life,” he said. “If we continue at this pace, we won’t have a future.”
On Sunday, six teams signed up for the community day and kickball tournament at Cavalier Manor field in Portsmouth.
Monica Atkins created Stop the Violence 757. Her organization calls for change.
“It’s all about respect, you and I don’t have to like one another but we must respect one another,” she told 10 On Your Side.
