Local Olympic Athletes: Chesapeake native Quincy Wilson makes history in 4x400m relay

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — At just 16 years old, Chesapeake native and track phenom Quincy Wilson is the second youngest member of Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He’s also the youngest American male track Olympian in history, according to Team USA.

Born on January 8, 2008, he’s just a few months older than fellow 16-year-old, gymnast Hezly Rivera.

The 5-foot-9 Wilson made history in the 4x400m relay on Friday, August 9, becoming the youngest American male to compete in track and field at the Olympics.

He was added to the team’s relay pool after finishing sixth in the 400 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

On the way to the final, he broke a 42-year-old under-18 world record twice, with runs of 44.66 in round one and 44.59 in the semi-finals.

WAVY reported on Quincy Wilson in June 2024.
