How to watch WAVY News during the Olympics

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The 2024 Paris Olympics officially begins on Friday, July 26 with the Opening Ceremony, but competition will get underway a couple days earlier.

Here’s what you need to know about how to watch the Olympics and how to watch your local news.


When are the 2024 Olympics?

Dates: July 26 – Aug. 11, 2024
Location: Paris, France
Broadcast Channel: NBC – local affiliate WAVY TV 10
Streaming: Peacock

Some of the Olympic events will be broadcast live on WAVY TV the same time as our regularly scheduled newscasts, beginning on Friday, July 26.

Keep in mind, Paris is six hours ahead of the Eastern Standard Time Zone.

There will be no WAVY newscasts on the following dates and times because of the Olympics:

Weekdays, beginning Friday, July 26 – No 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. news on WAVY; only 6 p.m.

*** During the Olympics, you can watch WAVY News 10 at Midday and WAVY News 10 weekday evenings from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on FOX43 TV (WVBT) The 6 p.m. news will be simulcast on WAVY and FOX43. We also have an hourlong newscast on FOX43 at 10 p.m.

Friday, July 26 – WAVY Late News begins at 11:30 p.m. instead of 11 p.m.
Saturday, July 27 – No 6 a.m. or 7 a.m.
Sunday, July 28 – No 6 a.m. or 7 a.m.
Tuesday, July 30 – WAVY Late News begins at 11:30 p.m. instead of 11 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 3 – No 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. WAVY Late News begins at 11:30 p.m. instead of 11 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 4 – 6 a.m. news only; no 7 a.m.
Saturday, Aug. 10 – 6 a.m. only; no 7 a.m.
Sunday, Aug. 11 – 6 a.m. only; no 7 a.m.

The Hampton Roads Show, which typically airs on WAVY-TV 10 weekdays from 11 a.m. – noon, will not air at this time during the Olympics. Instead, catch HRS co-hosts Chris Reckling and Tara Wheeler every weekday at 11 a.m. on the HRS Facebook page during the Olympics for a live chat.

How to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics:

Starting with the Opening Ceremony, Peacock will stream every Olympic sport and event, including all 329 medal events across 39 sports. NBC will also provide coverage of the Games on NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com and the NBC/NBC Sports apps. Telemundo will air Spanish-language coverage of the Opening Ceremony starting at 1 p.m. ET on July 26.
